My vocation and avocation as a teacher is to train students to be innovative theater makers and scholars in order to reflect a greater breadth of the human experience on global stages by engaging with the dynamic intersections of race, gender, language, culture and social justice. As a scholar artist, I integrate pedagogy, performance, and research in my scholarly and artistic work as I seek to center antiracist, decolonizing, and reparative strategies in all areas of my work.
The photo above features students in my Black Theater course with award-winning actor John Douglas Thompson (center in white shirt and jeans) and some faculty and staff. (I am standing fourth from the left in a black top.)
